Trenton Stewart Foundation raises more than $40K in scholarships for student-athletes

Foundation was created following the death of college freshman who was killed in head-on crash last May

More than a dozen student-athletes from Northeast Florida now have college scholarships, thanks to the Trenton Stewart Foundation.

The organization held its inaugural gala over the weekend in St. Augustine.

Stewart was a college freshman who was killed in a head-on crash on Old St. Augustine Road last May while making a DoorDash delivery.

His parents created the foundation in his honor.

Fourteen scholarships were given to students from Ponte Vedra, Bartram Trail, Creekside, and Stetson University -- where Stewart attended college.

More than $40,000 was raised at the gala.

Former NFL player Desmond Clark was the keynote speaker.
