Jacksonville’s new ‘transparency dashboards’ give public glimpse of how city is using resources

Mayor Donna Deegan says dashboards are part of promise to ‘let the sunshine in’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city of Jacksonville’s new “Mayor’s Transparency Dashboards” include information on everything from permits and Public Works projects to literacy.

There are currently four dashboards available on the city’s website.

TELL US: What else do you want the city of Jacksonville to share on its ‘transparency dashboards’?

Animal Care and Protective Services

You can see that shelter occupancy has been on a constant decline since May.

Right now, the shelter has about 371 occupants. The highest number most recently was 491 occupants.

Permitting

The dashboard shows most permits issued in the last year were for single family housing.

This includes duplexes and townhouses.

So, if you’ve been driving around town and thinking there’s a lot of apartments being built but no homes — well, the data doesn’t support that.

Public Works

You can see just how often the city is working to keep roads drivable.

Data shows that Public Works has resurfaced more than 85 miles of roads in the last 12 months. This slows down during the hot summer months.

River City Readers

Mayor Donna Deegan launched a River City Readers Challenge back in January and the dashboard shows a steady rate of readers across the board.

February saw the highest increase in readers from all age groups from as young as 1 year old to 19 and older. But it starts to slowly decline in March.

If you’re interested, you can view this data yourself at Jacksonville.gov.

The mayor has asked for feedback about the transparency dashboards and what else Jacksonville residents want to see their local government share data for. Let us know what you think here.
